Discover five feminist porn directors who are boldly and ethically transforming the industry.

Erika Lust: One of the world’s best-known directors
If there’s only one feminist porn director in the world, Erika Lust is it. This Swedish businesswoman has literally built an empire.
In 2004, she made her first short film, The Good Girl. A veritable manifesto for feminist porn, it proved that it was possible to combine aesthetics, eroticism and ethics.
Since then, there’s been no stopping her. She has shot between 350 and 500 films for her production company Erika Lust Films. Her productions deal with fantasies and polyamorous relationships, without ever falling into cliché. Her trademark? Her way of capturing desire through the “female gaze”. To achieve this, she surrounds herself with a predominantly female film crew and ensures a balanced presence of partners on screen. Erika also guarantees a respectful working environment for actresses and actors, restoring the human dimension of sex.
“For me, the only way to consume porn ethically is to pay for it, because it costs a lot of money to produce it in safe working conditions.” Erika Lust for Madmoizelle, February 21, 2024
Erika Lust recently inaugurated a new concept in her adopted city of Barcelona: The House of Erika Lust. It’s an immersive exhibition where visitors, wearing virtual reality headsets, wander through rooms where erotic and pornographic experiences are projected in 3D. A world first!
For Erika Lust, ethical and feminist pornography is an opportunity to transform the way we look at sexuality, by promoting consent, respect for others and responsible consumption.

Paulita Pappel: Between authenticity and activism
Spanish actress, director and producer Paulita Pappel moved to Berlin at an early age, attracted by the city’s spirit of sexual freedom. It was there that she discovered the queer feminist movement, which fueled her introspection and her fight for a free, inclusive and assertive sexuality.
Against a backdrop of activism, she cut her teeth in the porn industry as an actress. In 2016, she founded Lustery.com, a porn video platform where amateur couples reveal their intimate lives, without taboo or artifice. Voyeuristic friends, it’s over here.
Four years later, Paulita launched her own production studio, HARDWERK. True to her convictions, she values consent and individual limits in her productions. Among her flagship projects is hardwerk.com, a platform that revisits gangbang through a female prism.
A fervent activist, Paulita actively promotes the destigmatization of sex work, consent education and sexual health through conferences, podcasts and workshops.
Her approach advocates an uncomplicated, carnal sexuality. She reminds us that sex is above all a space for exploration, freedom and mutual respect.

Olympe de G: The French revolutionary
A former designer-editor for major brands, Olympe de Gê turned to directing in 2016 to offer her renewed vision of pornography. Her desire? To deconstruct stereotypes, highlight consent and promote inclusive representations.
Right from her first feature film, Une dernière fois, Olympe turns codes on their head. Her script deals with the freedom to dispose of one’s body at any age.
She also shares her thoughts in the columns of Uzbek & Rica magazine and on the Elle.fr website in a sexo-feminist section. On the literary side, she has co-written several books, including Jouir est un sport de combat (2021) and Sex Talk et Hold-Up (2023), in which she discusses sex education and feminism. Her podcast Voxx, dedicated to women, has racked up over 25 million listens. With soft, haunting vocals, she invites listeners to share in the pleasures, while also addressing men with her male counterpart, Coxx.
Alongside her content creation, Olympe de G is an ardent campaigner for better sex education. She strives to raise public awareness of the importance of consent and human relations, particularly in the area of health.

Lucie Blush: The feel-good porno
Looking for a light-hearted approach to pornography? French director Lucie Blush represents a breath of fresh air in the world of adult cinema. Her experience in pornography began purely by chance. She was recruited to manage the website and graphics for Erika Lust’s production company. This collaboration was the starting point of her “classified” adventure.
In 2012, she launched her blog We Love Good Sex. A collection of videos that turned her on and stories of her new experiences and thoughts on sexuality.
In 2013, with no training whatsoever, Lucie made her first short film entitled Alice Inside, in the vein of feminist pornography. This project will inspire her to continue, with the idea of making “sex realistic and not mechanical”.
Lucie Blush likes to play with the codes of intimacy: her X-rated films often feature everyday scenarios, with a touch of humor and plenty of complicity. She values the diversity of bodies and shows relationships where pleasure is shared, far from traditional performative representations. Always attentive to the wishes of her performers, she explains: “I always send the script in advance so that the actors can tell me what they think of it and make it their own.”
In parallel, she’s also very active on social networks, where she shares her thoughts on pleasure, feminism and respect for working conditions in pornography. Blush porn” combines lightness, joy and relaxation, and is sure to win you over if you’re looking for ethical, positive videos.

Ovidie: The committed voice of pornography
It’s impossible to talk about feminist porn without mentioning Ovidie, an icon of erotic cinema in the 2000s. Born in 1980, Ovidie defines herself as a “pro-sex feminist”. She is a pioneer of the genre in France. At just 21, in 2001, she became the youngest pornographic film director in history with Orgie en Noir, for which she won a Hot d’Or for best screenplay.
Involved in issues of sexual education, Ovidie modifies her approach to filming by integrating an educational dimension.
“Fifteen years ago, there were hardly any female directors, but today we’re no longer in a niche, but in a political movement,” explains Ovidie for Libération.
As an author and activist, she advocates pornography that is respectful of both actors and audiences, and far removed from violence and stereotypes. With Ovidie, porn becomes a tool for reflection and education. She invites us to rethink our habits and support creators who share her values.
