Olympe de G: Biography & Filmography

olympe de g

Born in the 80s, feminist pornography is gradually gaining recognition. In France, led by directors such as Olympe de G, Erika Lust and Paulita Pappel, this new wave places consent, inclusivity and diversity at the heart of their actions. A real revival for a genre that has long been maligned. Artist and activist, Olympe de G combines emotion, aesthetics and societal reflection to celebrate personal, uninhibited pleasure.

Who is Olympe de G?

Behind the pseudonym Olympe de Gê – a tribute to the revolutionary feminist Olympe de Gouges – lies Barbara Soumet-Leman, born June 9, 1983 in Paris. This author, director and podcaster has established herself as one of France’s pioneers of alternative pornography.

A pen sharpened over the years

Before making her mark in feminist porn, Olympe de G first made a name for herself in advertising. For 15 years, she gave voice to major brands with renowned Parisian agencies (Publicis Net, Buzzman, La Chose, Viral Factory, BBH, Goodby Silverstein…). In 2013, she joined the French branch of the famous Apple brand, first as a copywriter, then as creative director. In charge of written communications, she oversees all French-speaking markets for Apple. The same year, she signed on to direct the black and white video clip “Nuit 17 à 52” by Rahim Redcar, then known as Christine and the Queens, an aesthetic and refined project.

In 2016, her writing marked a breakthrough. Annoyed by the clichés conveyed by traditional porn, centered on male domination and female submission. Olympe set out to redefine the collective imagination damaged by these stereotypes. She first collaborated with feminist porn icon Erika Lust, both as actress and filmmaker. Before long, she was creating her own “feminist AND explicit” content, as she likes to call it. Her writing is honed around themes such as consent, eroticism and inclusive representations. At the same time, she shares her sexo-feminist outlook through weekly columns on Elle.fr and publishes articles in Uzbek & Rica magazine.

In 2022, she co-wrote Le Serment d’Augusta, a documentary podcast on gynecological and obstetrical violence. Produced in collaboration with Professor Emmanuel Flamand-Roze, this project opens up a dialogue between caregivers and patients, in a post #MeToo era. Critically acclaimed and awarded a 4T by Télérama, it has also become an optional teaching unit for medical students at La Sorbonne.

On the literary side, Olympe is the author of several books for the general public, including Jouir est un sport de combat (2021), Sex Talk and Hold-Up (2023), in which she discusses sex education and feminism.

Olympe’s G-spot: where aesthetics and emotion meet

Olympe de Gê’s films are distinguished by their meticulous aesthetics and emotionally rich narratives. A world away from mainstream porn, she favors captivating narratives in which intimacy, emotion and the diversity of human experience take center stage.

Among her outstanding achievements is Une dernière fois, a poignant film that takes a delicate look at desire among the elderly. Critically acclaimed, it won Best Feature at the Secs Fest, while she was honored with the title of Director of the Year at the Dreamachine International Film Festival. A true ode to universal desire, this film reminds us that sexuality knows no age or limits.

Always in search of inclusive representations, Olympe explores queer narratives, stories of racialized people and sexual practices that are still marginalized. Each creation is an invitation to rethink our relationship with sexuality, freed from normative injunctions.
